Meet Mike
Mike Rittenberry moved to Midland with his family in 1981 at the age of 13. He attended Alamo Jr. High School and went on to attend Lee Freshman and Lee High School where he graduated in 1985. While in high school, he was a captain on both the Lee High School baseball and football teams.
Mike attended both Midland College and Texas Tech University over the next year and a half before deciding on a different course of life, which led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. Mike went to boot camp at MCRD San Diego in 1987. He served the remainder of his enlistment at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and in Okinawa, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1991.
After leaving the USMC, Mike received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at Eastern New Mexico University. He was a pitcher for the team until 1993 when he moved back to Midland and began working at Wagner & Brown, Ltd. He continued his studies attending night school at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1998. Following graduation, Mike entered law school at Texas Tech University School of Law and graduated with his law degree in 2001. He was licensed as an attorney in Texas in 2002.
Mike worked for two private law firms after passing the bar exam. In 2004, he joined the Midland County Attorney's office, where his primary duties included representing Child Protective Services and advising elected officials and department heads on employment and personnel matters.
In 2007, Mike moved to the Midland County District Attorney's office, serving as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting both misdemeanor and felony cases. In 2012, Mike became the Misdemeanor Trial Team Chief. He served in that position until 2015, when he left the District Attorney's Office to briefly pursue private enterprises. He returned to the Midland County District Attorney's office in 2020 and was again promoted to Misdemeanor Trial Team Chief in 2022. In February of 2025, Mike left the Midland County District Attorney's office and began a position at the Texas Criminal Defense Group, as a criminal defense attorney.
The vast majority of Mike's professional life has been spent in public service, including the United States Marine Corps, and he is eager to return to that in serving the citizens of Midland County as judge of the County Court at Law #2.
In his free time, Mike enjoys playing golf and watching college sports, but mostly likes to spend time with his family - his wife, Morgan, and sons Skyler and John. He has been a member of Stonegate Fellowship in Midland since the early 2000s.
